The intended audience of TED's ideas are motivated learners as well as experts in the field of the speeches subject. Motivated thinkers are drawn to TED because it gives them a new perspective from which to approach whatever subject the speaker is address, this kind of thought provocation is what drives learners to creatively solve problems. This also appeals to experts in the field in the same way that a convention specifically for that subject would draw them. The spreading of ideas and information are what draw these people to the organization which is why TED specifically targets these people.
